Our Leprechaun Was Bullied

Amongst mothers, there is a wide range of opinions on the proper level of celebration for the minor holidays.  Major holiday would be the likes of Christmas, Halloween, Easter, and 4th of July.  And with the exception of the oh-so-controversial Elf on the Shelf, most moms seem to agree on appropriate celebrations for major holidays.
But have you noticed that there are very strong opinions on the ways to celebrate holidays like Valentine's Day, St. Patty's Day, and the First ad Last Days of school.  And expectations have changed a lot since I was a kid.
For example, when I was a kid, there were two ways to observe St. Patty's Day-- 1. wear green or get pinched and 2. maybe put some green food coloring in the stroganoff.  That's it.
And truly, no judgement from me.  I think going all out is great fun (sometimes)-- if the mom thinks its great fun.  And I don't think anyone's childhood is ruined if the mom doesn't like to "mother" that way.  It takes all kinds.
Early on, Clark started creating little treasure hunts for St. Patty's day for his younger siblings.  It became a really fun tradition.  When Clark moved out, other siblings took up the charge, and once or twice Abe (the Tradition Czar) even shouldered the responsibility.
But the point is, our younger children have had our leprechaun "Lucky", visit each St. Patty's Day and leave clues on green paper hidden around the house, leading to a pot of chocolate gold coins.

Lucky kids.
This year, Clark reclaimed his rightful place as the writer and hider of the clues.  However, he wasn't able to get up to the house until later in the evening.  Peter and Greta were quite put off by the tardiness of our leprechaun.  All day long they questioned the leprechaun's whereabouts, dependability, dedication to his work, etc.  I tried to reassure them that he hadn't forgotten them and they must keep believing.  And yet, in their impatience, they said some very hurtful things about "Lucky".
For the record, Lucky is neither negligent  nor lazy.  He just has a real job!

In the end, the wait was worth the while...
It was a very good hunt, indeed!
Clark is still the best:)
