DAY SEVEN-- Washington Monumnet

We had the Jefferson Memorial all to ourselves early Friday morning.
It really was so peaceful and beautiful right next to the Tidal Basin.  Very different compared to the Lincoln Memorial.....

I admit this felt a little weird having the National Guard patrolling the streets near the Mall.  I had mixed feelings.
Faith particularly enjoyed our visit up to the top of the National Monument.
It is quite striking and beautiful
The whole time we were there there was a US Park Police helicopter circling the Monument.

The views were amazing!

At the National Archives
It's faded so much, but it's still so cool to see the actual document
The man on the left side in the orange/brown coat is the artist's depiction of Abraham Clark-- one of the signers of the Declaration.  We like it since we have Clark Abraham.
Oh.... Oh... what have we here?  A little Nicolas Cage and National Treasure re-enactment.

There are lots of reasons to love Faith.  This is is just one of them.
Ooh la la!  It's the Hope Diamond
The Natural History Museum is so interesting
I think my favorite Smithsonian museum is the American History one.  At all the places we visited I loved seeing all the piano-fortes.
Lin-Manuel Miranda's original Hamilton costume.  Speaking of Hamilton--we loved listening to the soundtrack on our east coast journeys.

The original Bert and Ernie
This is THE top hat Lincoln wore to Ford's Theater the night he was assassinated.

Abe took the kids the go visit the Lincoln Memorial in daylight.
Then Emily, Faith and I stayed a bit longer at the Smithsonian because we weren't quite done yet.  I mean, you could spend a week in each Smithsonian, and still be no where near "done".
Emily has been an ER nurse for a long time and since Faith is in school to become a nurse, they hit it off.
Emily gifted Faith her first trauma shears:)  We had to mail them home since flying home with trauma shears in one's carry-on is a big no-no.
Then we were all so pooped that we headed back to the hotel for some rest time.  And my dear Emily and I got to have a good heart-to-heart like the old days.  She is one of those bosom friends and it doesn't matter how long it's been, we instantly connect again and it's like no time has passed at all.  I adore Emily and think she is one of the very best people I've ever known.
A little Panda Express for dinner in the hotel lobby.  This is really living!
Then we went on a driving tour to Emily's old house-- where her mom still lives.  And at Faith's request we sang a stirring rendition of "God Bless the USA"
And my old house-- 4234 Worcester Lane
Walking through the Vietnam Memorial at night
The Lincoln Memorial is truly a National Treasure

And I'll end this post with George's delight at finding a shopping cart on the sidewalk.
