In front of the Royal Governor's Palace in Williamsburg, VA
I never knew that the "Arming the Manor" really did mean hanging the armor in manor for display and use when needed. It was pretty cool to see.
This seriously made me consider going home and getting a four-poster canopy bed. I haven't dismissed the thought entirely.
We attended a really fabulous presentation of George Washington himself-- well sort of the man himself-- he performed Washington's farewell address (written, at least in part, by Hamilton). It was quite inspirational. Then the audience got to ask him questions and he was extremely knowledgeable and stayed in great character. We wanted to get a picture of George with George at the end. But an older gentleman commandeered the Commanders attention asking all sorts of bizarre questions about how Washington's interactions with and feelings towards the Iroquois Indians. I wanted to tell the man, "You do know that he is not the ACTUAL George Washington, right? You know he is just an actor/historian playing a part, don't you?"
Actually, I don't think he did realize that because he just kept going and in the end we gave up and snapped this pic of Mr. President in the background.

Such a pretty patch of wildflowers

We really enjoyed the George Washington presentation, but we LOVED the Marquis de Lafayette. He was fantastic and so entertaining.
I adore this picture of Greta in love with the horses
We stayed in Williamsburg until about noon and then headed up to Mount Vernon. And we all appreciated another couple of hours rest in the car.
Sadly, it is undergoing MAJOR renovations and we could only go into ONE room of the house-- which one room wasn't in its most historically accurate era-- with electrical cords running through it. Sadness and disappointment for us.
We're sitting by the family vault Washington was originally placed when he died.

George at George's place.
One of the absolute highlights of the entire trip had to do with history that occurred about 30 years ago, rather than 250 years ago. We're missing a few, but this was my main gang of friends when I graduated from high school in Fairfax, Virginia. We were all marching band kids and I had such wonderful experiences with them. I look back with so much fondness on that time and the relationships with these good people.
Emily and I (on the right) are both grandmas now! What the heck??? Thirty years! I can't believe it has been thirty years.
The kiddos went to a movie theater next to the restaurant.
