As of January 1st, Cannon is officially part of the Young Men's program! He will be ordained a deacon tomorrow-- which is totally wonderful and crazy at the same time. He is excited and we are thrilled for the adventures and growth that await him in the coming years. Abe just got called to be a leader in the Deacons quorum, so they will get to spend lots of time together.
This past Wednesday evening Abe, Elinor, Faith, and Cannon all headed off to a combined Young Mens/Young Womens. They played Hungry, Hungry Hippos and then dodge ball. From all reports, it was a super fun activity.
But then something went wrong.
Poor Faith took a very hard hit to the face from a dodge ball thrown by an adult male leader. Faith tried to keep playing because she didn't want anyone to know she was hurt, but the tears came. (very unusual for Faith). She and Elinor left early and came home. Faith cried all evening.
The next day her head hurt, she couldn't concentrate to read or read aloud fluently, she was off balance, she laid down almost all day. Hmm... sound like a concussion to me.
The next day she was going to go to a piano lesson, but when she tried to warm up before she left, she couldn't play piano fluently at all. No bueno.
I took her to the Dr. yesterday afternoon. The Dr. did several memory, coordination, balance, vision, and cognitive tests. She definitely has a concussion (brain injury) and is on "brain rest" for a few days--no physical activity, no TV, no screens, nothing that requires a lot of concentration. She is still spending most of her time in bed because her head hurts and she feels so fatigued if she is up for more than about twenty minutes.
She's so tough and so active, so it's sad and scary to see her not acting like herself so much.
