The Rolling Foxes Summer Tour Day 1--Parades and Creepyburg

I could give Abe a "Super Dad" award for a lot of reasons pretty much any day, but he most definitely earned the title yesterday.  He served as chauffeur, coordinator, and assistant to the Riverton Royalty the whole morning as the girls had the city flag raising at 6:30 am and then the Murray parade at 8:30 and the West Jordan parade at 10:30.

Elinor read part of the "Declaration of Independence" at the flag raising ceremony.
I love this picture with our wonderful Mayor Staggs.
I love this one too.  Abe takes great pictures in both quantity and quality:)
I love America-- of course our country has it's problems, but there is SO MUCH GOOD.  I love it and am grateful and proud to be an American.

The ladies grabbing a quick chuckwagon breakfast before stopping at our house to change into their parade dresses.
The staging area of the Murray Parade.
The West Jordan Parade.

Now, all of that in one morning would exhaust many people.  But not Abe!  Not us!  As soon as they got home around 12:20 pm, we loaded up our rental van and finally headed out on our long awaited, long dreamed of, extensively planned (thanks to Abe) family church history adventure across the country!
Don't feel sorry for us-- we really, really love road trips together!  We were in heaven.
We ended the day about 10:00 pm in a rather unfortunate little town in the northeast corner of Colorado.  Abe chose this location so we could add Colorado to our 14 state cross country tour.  But there was a price to pay for that dip into Colorado.  Not so much a monetary price.  In fact, the "hotel" we stayed at was very reasonably priced--- for obvious reasons.  Dude, it was not quite as horrific as the hotel Camille and I stayed in Denver several years back. Click here  to refresh your memory.  Or don't.  It's wasn't pretty then and it's not pretty now.  The Budget Host Platte Valley Inn where we stayed last night  wasn't that bad, but it was second to the worst hotel I've ever stayed in.  Once again, don't feel sorry for us-- we had a good time laughing our heads off about the town, which Greta called "Creepyburg" and the kids said felt like it came right out of a Scooby-Doo episode.
The littles were understandably a little wiggly before finally conking out, but that is to be expected after nine hours in the card.  Really, they are remarkably good little travelers.
Any hopes we had of swimming were quickly dashed since the pool wasn't even filled.  My guess is it has been quite some time since it was functional.  It reminded me of that moment in the movie Karate Kid when Daniel Laruso moves to California and the pool at the apartment complex looked a lot like this.  How very disappointing😂
I had never seen a sign like this in a hotel before.  I was cracking up.  And then Peter said, "Why does the trash can have blood on it?"
I looked and sure enough-- it did look that way.  In actuality it appeared the interior of the trash can had been painted red and the some of the paint had dripped down the sides.  But the question is WHY?  Why was the interior of the trash can painted red?  I don't know.  I guess it's part of the Scooby Doo mystery.
