The Rolling Foxes Summer Tour Day 2-- Bring On the Church History

We knew we wanted to get to Nauvoo as quickly as we could on Monday, July 5th.  And there was a lot a church history sites we wanted to visit on our way out.  So today, we packed it all in.

Our rental van is a sweet ride-- 15 passenger with extended height.  Now mind you, after two days of a lot of driving in the car, things can still get a little nutsy.  I'm glad it doesn't usually lead to arguing-- occasionally, but not usually.  Rather, it gets silly and loud.  I prefer that to the arguing.  Lots of snacking, music, audiobooks, movies, and sleeping.  We finished listening to a book I SUPER HIGHLY recommend-- All Thirteen-- it's the story of the rescue of the boys' soccer team in Thailand a few years back.  Really, really good and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it.
We got off at 7 am this morning-- go us!  Everyone was pretty happy to hustle out of Creepyburg.  Our first destination of the day was the Independence, MO Visitor's Center around 3:30 pm.  So, yeah, a lot of driving again today.  I am especially enjoying these church history sites this year as we study the Doctrine and Covenants  with Come Follow Me.
The children's little play area was closed off, but I snapped this picture of Greta in the doorway because I have fond memories of the older kids playing in here years ago when we visited.
Kiddos were a little hot and tired at this point, so just Abe hopped out to document our visit to the temple site in Independence.
Our next visit was Liberty Jail.  I really love this church history site and what they've done and how the missionaries share the story of what happened there.
I think this picture is pretty representative of Peter and Greta.
I am so grateful for the experiences we have had at Liberty Jail. I'll be honest, I was a little distracted this time because Peter and Greta had hurried to be among the few people that went downstairs during the presentation.  And then they were not terribly well-behaved and I was slightly mortified.  Probably nobody else cared, but I felt bad that they might we distracting other people.  Yet, in spite of that, I love the spirit that is so strong at these sites.
Next stop was Far West where a temple site was dedicated and the corner stones are still in place.  This was an optional picture (some of them are not optional😂) and this is who we got.  We'll take it.  The land in Missouri is so beautiful-- so green, so rolling.  It is pretty out of the way to get to Far West and it is so peaceful there.
A family selfie at Adam-ondi-Ahman.  Please note, we tried to take a reverent selfie-- and I think we did a pretty good job of it.
The optional picture only got the three of us this time.
This one we wanted to be just the two of us.
The best moment of the day was having a family Sacrament at Adam-ondi-Ahman.  Thanks to COVID we are still authorized to administer the Sacrament in our families.  It was a beautiful Sabbath evening with the sun setting as we sat around a picnic table.  That's a memory I will always cherish.
And then we were so grateful the pool at our hotel was open and functional because after two days in the car, our kids needed to move their bodies!

Here are seven of the fourteen states we'll visit.
