Last Monday morning at 8:00 a.m. I dropped Elinor and fellow swimmer-friend off at a stay-over four day BYU swim camp. I knew she had had a sore back for a several days. But what are you going to do? It was probably a pulled muscle and we'd already paid for the camp and swimmers work through aches and pains all the time. I figured once she was warmed up she'd be okay and she'd just take it easy when needed.
I was wrong.
She started texting me around 11:00 am of the same morning saying she'd never been in so much pain in her life. She was sitting out of the workout and wanted me to take her to a doctor. I turned around and went back down to Provo and took her to the Instacare at the nearby hospital. Turns out it wasn't even close to a pulled muscle. The girl had a freaking kidney infection! It would seem her outrageous tolerance for pain, combined with not recognizing the symptoms of a UTI -- and voila!-- kidney infection.
Poor girl got a shot of antibiotics in the hip/buttocks and then I took her back to camp. I mean, it was already paid for. I figured even if she didn't feel up to the workouts, she could still go to the classes, eat in the cafeteria and make friends. She ended up doing all of it, including the workouts. She came home thoroughly exhausted but very happy from a great week. She has been extra tired since coming home and has slept and napped a lot.
Faith is completely obsessed with Bob Ross. She watches hours and hours of it. Which is funny because she is not known for her artistic creativity. But it soothes her soul-- so she watches. She ordered this sign off Amazon for her room.
And really, one can only watch so much "The Joy of Painting" with Bob Ross, before one simply must paint a landscape oneself. Faith was not pleased with her finished project and refused to let anyone see it. Bob says it's so easy, but it's not.
Elinor, however, created a lovely "Mountain Road" landscape. We were all genuinely impressed. And then Greta got a hold of it and added the black... bird/dementor/flying stingray/ghost thing.
Now she called her painting "Haunted Mountain Road". Good thing there are no mistakes... just happy little Greta accidents.
There was another artistic endeavor in our house this afternoon. Bethany's friend and fellow lifeguard, Jeremiah, came over to bring his computer he was selling to Bethany for school. The two of them are both great musicians and they jammed on piano and violin and then THEY SANG! Oh, it was such a treat to listen to them!! He was amazing!!!!
Here's a little listen.
I sat and did my puzzle while listening to the beautiful music. I was in a very happy place.
On Sunday we went to a mission homecoming for the daughter of dear friends. This beautiful gal left after Clark and now she is home. Which, of course, means it won't be too long before Clark is home:)
George and Greta had fun on the giant swing. Another crazy coincidence of the day was that a kid Elinor became friends with at swim camp happened to also be at the homecoming-- friends of the family. We knew this guy's parents years ago when we had young families and were first homeschooling. Small world!
Abe took the middle kids to the Butterfly Biosphere at Thanksgiving Point. This is an activity that is fun for all ages.
I am impressed with Abe's photo skills on this outing.
A night out with Dad was good for everyone:)
Clark is one happy missionary this week. His mission dream has come true--- he has been transferred out to Louisiana! This is where he wanted to go and possibly where he may finish out his mission. Now, maybe there are other reasons he wanted to be in Louisiana, but make no mistake-- the hope of finding and handling a gator is at least "a" motivating factor. I'm sort of expecting a call from the mission president informing us that Clark is in the hospital after a gator attack. I will have to explain to him that the gator did not attack Clark. Rather Clark was just fulfilling his bucket list item to "wrestle a gator".
I'm totally NOT kidding.
Awww... aren't they cute? Weird thing-- his companion is younger than Bethany. Clark's getting to be an old man in the mish.
Abe and I enjoyed an afternoon at the temple this week. It was beautiful and peaceful and I was so happy to get to be there to support our wonderful friend Corrine as she went through for the first time. It's awesome to get to experience milestones with your own family and it is so wonderful to be able to be a part of them for friends who are like family as well.
