George's Eight Date

George's 8th birthday was the day after we arrived home.  We had had his present sitting up in our closet for about a month an a half, when Abe "won" it at work.
This kids had NO IDEA what it was.  How could they?  They would never suspect.  They guessed maybe it was wheelie shoes.
Umm.. no.
It was a Wii Switch.
Oh, the hysteria that ensued!  The screaming.  The tears.  The jumping around. The hugging.
They could not believe it.
It was a glorious moment.
You know what hasn't been fun since then?  Monitoring screen time.  Oh, well.  At least it's good leverage to get their work done!
A very happy birthday to a very happy little guy.  I believe I am reacting to what might be spitting on the cake in an attempt to blow out the candles.  I see now that I may have been overreacting.  Still, spit on a cake is a serious thing.
It took us a week or so to regroup from our big trip to Spokane, but when we did sufficiently recover, it was time for George's "Eight Date".  We took him downtown to have dinner at The Garden Restaurant at the top of the Joseph Smith Memorial Building.
It's a pretty big deal in our family for a kid to get to go out to a "fancy" restaurant-- or really any restaurant for that matter!  George really liked it, but I think he would have been satisfied with just the big, soft roll and the unlimited root beer in a "big glass".
Being the 6th kid in the line-up, he was perhaps a little overwhelmed by the undivided attention of both parents for an entire evening!  He handled himself very well in spite of all the attention.
George is a happy, easy-going kid.  He is enthusiastic about everything and and very creative.  Similar to how Clark operated, he has vision to create something from nothing and see possibilities where other literally see trash.
He is such a handsome little dude.
We went to Deseret Book to buy George his first set of scriptures.  Quite unexpectedly we happened upon Abe's Aunt Lisa and cousin, Britain and her family out visiting from Virginia.  We haven't seen Britain for maybe 15+ years!  It such a happy surprise.
Then as we were heading back to our car we came upon my wonderful Aunt Diane and Uncle Lane volunteering as hosts in the lobby of the Joseph Smith Memorial Building.  It was wonderful!  We felt so connected!
Happy birthday, George!  We love and adore you!  We are so thankful you are in our family!
