On the Trail

My dad has been doing a pretty cool thing with his grandchildren the last little while and he's not done yet.  He's taking them in small groups on a trail ride in the hills above This is the Place Park in Salt Lake, and then spending the day at the park with them.  George is on the second horse from the left in this picture  His group was Aliyah and Brigham.  George isn't a huge talker (not an unwelcome anomaly in our family) so he didn't give me a lot of details, but he did say how fun it was and what a great time he had.

Crossing the Sweetwater with the Saints.
Good memories made.
Cannon was scheduled to go with Grandpa on Friday.  Because of scheduling conflicts, Cannon was going to be going solo without any other cousins.  I saw my opportunity!  Hey, maybe I could tag along with you?
It worked!  We had such a good time.
Here are the three of us on our ride on Friday.  Not a lot of shade, but the views were gorgeous!
Cannon and his trusty horse, "Trusty".
"Moondog" and me.  I hoped to connect to him by calling him Moondoggie (from Gidget).  But he didn't seem impressed.
They had several really beautiful statues depicting real experiences of pioneers crossing the plains.  They had audio bits telling each story.
Ice cream after a day in the hot sun
Always the character:)
Other highlights of the day were panning for gold, (I know it sounds like it's an activity for children, and that was the target audience, but we still had way too much fun, and getting lunch at the Huntsman Hotel and Saloon.
Then this was very exciting...
....we saw Elder M. Russell Ballard.  We think he was there as part of the dedicating of a new monument honoring African-American pioneers. He was so sweet:)
